Pharmacy Technology

About

This one-year program will prepare students to work as pharmacy technicians in wholesale or retail pharmacies, long-term care facilities, hospitals or other healthcare settings. Program instruction includes pharmacy math, pharmacology, top drugs, law and ethics, third-party reimbursement, certification preparation and clinical training.

Pharmacy technicians prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist.  Pharmacy technicians may measure, mix, count, label, and record amounts of medication dosages according to prescription orders.  The program is designed to provide learning experiences and basic competencies that students will need for employment.  Pharmacy students are eligible to register with the state as a Licensed Pharmacy Technician.  Upon completion of the program, Pharmacy Technology graduates are encouraged to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
